Profile

Dr. Tara Brayboy was born in Winston-Salem, NC and grew up in the neighboring small town, Kernersville. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a BA degree in Psychology. She obtained her MA degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, NY. She then worked at EAC-LINK in Brooklyn as a forensic case manager, responsible for developing and managing treatment planning for mentally ill, substance-dependent convicted offenders. After relocating to North Carolina, she worked as a TASC specialist, assessing and placing convicted offenders who were recognized by the court system as having a mental health and/or substance abuse diagnosis.

When asked why she decided to pursue a career in medicine, she stated, “I have always known that I wanted to work in a field where I could be of service to others. I care about education and health. Medicine just made sense to me.” She received her doctorate at Howard University College of Medicine and was active in several organizations including the Emergency Medicine Student Association, Evaluations Subcommittee (a division of the Curriculum Committee), and the HUCM Gospel Choir. She also volunteered at the Freedman’s Clinic, a medical student-run free clinic for local residents. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler – Longview Campus before moving to Georgia in 2020.

Dr. Brayboy believes that mutual trust is a key component of the patient-physician relationship. She asserts that a trusting relationship between the patient and physician yields transparency, which creates a framework that allows good communication. She is an advocate for patient education, as she believes this is essential to maintaining good health. Dr. Brayboy enjoys managing chronic medical conditions, preventive medicine, women’s health and more.

Dr. Brayboy feels blessed to be married to a handsome, thoughtful, talented, strong Texan (and dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan): Carnelius. She is further blessed to be the mother of two bright, imaginative, active, loud, inquisitive children: Charles and London. With her free time, Dr. Brayboy enjoys DIY projects, reading, learning, and eating crab legs with her husband.
