Dr. Julie Segal

Dr. Segal is a board certified pediatrician as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics with over 15 years’ experience in private practice. She is originally from New England but came south to Atlanta to attend college. She completed both her undergraduate and medical school training at Emory University in Atlanta as well as her residency training at St. Louis Children’s Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Segal then decided to further her training there by completing a clinical fellowship in Adolescent Medicine. She is an active staff member of Northside Hospital and loves to visit her newborn patients there shortly after delivery for their first exam! She is also on courtesy staff at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and maintains strong relationships with the pediatric subspecialists in her field to ensure her patients receive the best specialist care possible. She enjoys educating expectant parents about newborn care and what to expect after delivery at several local Obstetrician’s offices. Along with Dr. Mekelburg, she is one of the founding members of Children’s Wellness Center which they opened together in 2006.

She is married to a physician and they reside in Atlanta. Her favorite and most treasured activity is spending time with her 3 children- ages 5, 8 and 10. She is active in the community, volunteering at her synagogue as well as helping to develop health guidelines at her children’s school. She is also on the advisory board for Community Friendship, Inc., a nonprofit psychiatric rehabilitation organization in downtown Atlanta that helps those struggling with mental illness to reclaim their independence.

Being a parent can be both beautifully rewarding and challenging. Being a mom herself has helped her to be able to provide practical and realistic advice to new parents. There is nothing like getting advice from someone who has a parent has also faced many of the same challenges. Her favorite part of daily practice is empowering new families to gain confidence and find the joy in being new parents.
